KidsLipi started in a living room, with a father trying to help his son learn the family’s heritage language. That search led to heritage language schools, real classrooms, and 1,500+ students. Now the same listening-first practice is available to every language teacher.
The idea for KidsLipi started when I was helping my 5-year-old son learn Gujarati — our family’s heritage language. Like a lot of families in that situation, the challenge wasn’t finding a language class. It was finding something that actually helped him practice — that made the language feel natural, not like homework.
I started talking to language educators — heritage language teachers, world language teachers, and coordinators. The same frustration came up every time. There were classroom tools for engagement — games, quizzes, answer selection. But nothing that gave students structured practice in listening first, then speaking. Students could read a word on a screen and choose the right answer. But could they hear it, say it, and remember it? That’s the gap KidsLipi fills.
I wanted to build something that helped students speak their second language — and that made a teacher’s job easier, not harder. That became KidsLipi.
We started with heritage language schools — building listening and speaking activities used directly in real classrooms. We’ve now reached more than 1,500 students through those programs.
Today we’re making the same listening-first approach available to individual teachers — prebuilt activities in Spanish, German, Hindi, and English (ESL), ready to share by link, embed in an LMS, or display on a smartboard. No student logins. No setup required.
“We believe students learn to speak a language by hearing it, practicing it, and using it — not just reading or writing it.”
KidsLipi started as a school product. We’re now making the same listening-first approach available to individual teachers — ready to assign in minutes, no school-wide rollout required.
100+ ready-to-use listening and speaking activities in Spanish, German, Hindi, and English (ESL) — organized by level and topic.
Assign by link, embed inside your LMS, or display on your smartboard. No student logins. No setup. Students just click and start.
Students hear a word, see it with a visual, then say it back. Speech feedback helps students improve pronunciation as they practice.
We started in heritage language schools and built our listening-first approach alongside real teachers and real students before bringing it to a wider audience.
